Stephanie is a proud Okotokian, small business owner, and dedicated community advocate. As the Youth Services Director for the Rotary Club of Okotoks and a board member for the Foothills Country Hospice, she has devoted her life to service and volunteerism.
Her work on numerous non-profit boards and committees in Canada and Scotland reflects her commitment to strengthening community connections.
Holding an MSc in Dementia Studies, Stephanie is passionate about fostering relationships and ensuring quality end-of-life care, particularly for those with limited capacity, to maintain connection and meaning. Known for her outside-the-box critical thinking, she focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on challenges.
Stephanie is happily married to David Murdoch, a former farmer, Olympian, and World Champion curler who now serves as the Executive Director of High Performance for Curling Canada. Together, they raise their three children—Grace, Madeleine, and Matthew—alongside three dogs and a senior rescue cat. They chose to settle in Okotoks due to its Alberta values and small town charm.
.
With aspirations to serve on Okotoks’ municipal council for at least two terms, Stephanie aims to shape the town’s future while preserving its small-town charm.
Stephanie grew up on Vancouver Island, where her passion for service took root. From elementary school, she volunteered with various organisations, especially care homes, laying the foundation for her lifelong dedication to community. In high school, her local Rotary Club served as mentors, inspiring her through life-changing excursions. She also represented her community as an ambassador for the tourism board and held the title of Miss Vancouver Island, earning the Miss Friendship award at the Miss Canada International pageant.
Though she was raised on "the Island" she has a family history of strong Alberta roots dating back to early Ukrainian settlers in Lethbridge and Coleman where her Grandmother was crowned Rodeo Queen and whose photos still hang on the Crowsnest Museum walls.
She grew up loving cowboy boots, country music and wide open spaces and couldn't be happier to be in Alberta where she belongs.
